This 1980s magazine ad for Groundworks won a special photography award from Art Direction Magazine.

In pre-computer days the setup was physical; the draping fabrics had holes through which armature's were extended to hold the swatches. The swatches were glued to pieces of bent aluminum.

The graduated background was an airbrushed piece of illustration board with a rectangular hole cut in the middle.
